Yanto, a partner in our Jakarta office, specializes in the metals and mining and healthcare sectors. He helps clients drive large-scale industry transformations with a focus on operational excellence, corporate strategy, and sustainability. Drawing on extensive experience across the United States, Europe, India, China, and Asia–Pacific, Yanto delivers a global perspective to his work.

Yanto is passionate about advancing the minerals industry value chain in Southeast Asia and bringing global innovations to local players. He actively supports resource shapers in the region by driving transformation efforts focused on enhancing operational digital capabilities, diversifying portfolios, and elevating environmental, social, and governance performance. An active voice in the industry, Yanto frequently shares insights at leading conferences and contributes to knowledge publications, shaping discussions on the future of critical minerals and their role in enabling the global energy transition.

In addition to his work in metals and mining, Yanto is committed to transforming the local healthcare industry in Southeast Asia to improve access and quality of care. He has partnered with clients on critical healthcare agendas, tackling issues such as reducing stunting, strengthening vaccination programs, responding to the COVID-19 crisis, and improving health literacy. Yanto also supports efforts to enhance primary and secondary care systems and address healthcare worker needs, contributing to the development of resilient and equitable healthcare ecosystems in the region.

Some examples of Yanto’s recent client work include:

  • led an end-to-end digital transformation and safety improvement program for a major mining operator, leveraging advanced analytics to enhance performance and sustainability for over 30,000 employees
  • guided critical minerals players in portfolio diversification across copper, nickel, bauxite, and gold, enabling resilience and growth in a competitive global market
  • designed and executed downstream strategies and partnerships for critical minerals companies, unlocking new value chains and regional economic impact
  • directed a comprehensive corporate transformation for a leading metals company, covering operational excellence, sales optimization, financial restructuring, and M&A initiatives
  • spearheaded a national healthcare transformation program, driving strategic initiatives to improve primary and secondary care access, reduce stunting, enhance maternal and child health, and strengthen tuberculosis detection and treatment, among others

Before joining McKinsey, Yanto spent five years in the chemical industry in the United States, China, and India. He holds a doctorate degree in chemical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is fluent in English, Chinese, and Indonesian.
