RI International
Our collaboration
McKinsey Health Institute has collaborated with RI International across multiple behavioral health topics including reimagining and redesigning the Crisis Resource Need Calculator and developing Global Behavioral Health Crisis Care Principles. Our collaboration with RI works to address the significant variation in quality in the way people, health care organizations, and governments deal with crisis care around the world. Together, we aim to expand access to high quality, evidence based, recovery-oriented crisis care.
The Crisis Resource Need Calculator is a web-based calculator that estimates the demand, resourcing, and healthcare costs of behavioral health crisis services in the United States. The data from this calculator can be expanded and adapted to other global contexts based on local crisis response protocols and resources. The calculator has helped state, local, and community leaders understand potential benefits including overall system cost savings of expanded crisis care services.
MHI collaborated with RI International, NASMPHD, Global Leadership Exchange, and other mental health leaders to develop Global Behavioral Health Crisis Care Principles to inspire and inform the development of community-based suicide and crisis care around the world. As part of this work, MHI supported the 2024 Crisis Now 3 Summit in Amsterdam by facilitating sessions of leaders from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences to discuss the challenges in designing and building systems that are safe, effective, and person-centered, and helping the group codify shared principles.
