McKinsey joined Rework America Alliance to upskill and coach the low-wage workers most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to shift employer practices to open opportunities for these workers based on their skills. The Rework America Alliance, a Markle Foundation initiative, is working to help millions of unemployed workers from low-wage roles move into better jobs.

How we did it

Used data science to create a novel analysis of hidden “gateways” to economic mobility, and packaged into a frontline tool

Designed training programs and resources for job coaches

Equipped more than 40 organizations with facilitation resources to implement skill-based hiring and remove less-relevant degree requirements

Created a playbook to help community organizations run similar accelerators locally
